Since getting involved with SLST on October 28, 2010, one of the first things I noticed about the organization was that they were serious about involvement with health issues. Not just with their clients, which I still am to this day. And not just in the community. Their focus was beyond just what you or I usually think about. Supporting causes to cure MS, Diabetes, ALS, and my personal favorite Cancer, among others, is just the tip of the iceberg with these people. I have a rare form of cancer called IgM Myeloma. After 6 1/2 months of pounding me with 5 types of chemo at UCSF, I was ready for my experimental autologous bone marrow/stem cell transplant. After 6 more weeks I finally began to respond. After that more than 2 years of daily (yes daily) chemo. I’m still a giant guinea pig in several studies. A meyeloma research doctor from Spain is coming over a second time in July to take and study my bone marrow. The bad news is that disease is no longer a local problem. The good news is that research, treatments and cures are no longer local either. Supporting the American Cancer Society’s Walk for Life and 24 Hour Relay to me is a no brainer. The doctors have kept me alive. SLST has helped me to be able to walk. Please join me and Team SLST in supporting this wonderful cause again.
